Patient Interaction Frequency™ (PIF™). 

 

  Individual patients on medication for a chronic medical condition require to renew their prescriptions every six (6) months. This value-chain requires one doctor consultation visit, and six (6) pharmacy medication collection visits. The pharmacist is therefore exposed to a greater interaction with the patient on treatment. This is the Patient Interaction Frequency (PIF™). Therefore, the pharmacists have the greatest Patient Interaction Frequency™ (PIF™) per single chronic medication prescription. 

 Initially described by Dr Robert S Selepe, who defines PIF™ as a measure of the patient-healthcare provider (HCP) interactions for health services over a 12 month period for the purpose of managing a chronic condition. With the highest PIF™, the pharmacists, has the greatest health engagement opprtunity which is valuable in the management of non-communicable diseases (diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, obesity and hyperlipidaemia).

The use of digital therapeutics (DTx) in the care and management of patients on chronic cardio metabolic kidney medication is a great value-add to the healthcare provider's interaction with the patient. With the adoption of digital therapeutics, the pharmacist can provide more than just a "tablet refill", but record and manage biodata, thereby acquiring important insights into the patient therapeutic response (including adherence).

Using digital health tools, patients on chronic medication, would be expected to self-measure their health data (BP, BG, weight, TCH) at home. Self-measured data is digitally recorded on the health platform providing data integrity.

Patient home recorded biodata is recorded and saved on the digital health platform in the cloud.  This allows access to the data analytics by both the pharmacist and the treating doctor for best patient outcomes.

With the availability of home-measured biodata, the pharmacist can together with the prescribing doctor provide collaborative care and manage the patient's health, including adjust the medication to achieve disease control.
